Why Not Just Use a Ball Bearing?

Ball Bearings work great for Extract Chilling but you do encounter some issue when looking for something suitable to use for coffee.

The first issue of using ball bearings is the material, there are quite a lot of options available and ideally you would want to find a Stainless Steel ball bearing. Our experience is that sometimes these balls are sold as Stainless Steel even though they are made from other materials. As well as this you need to make sure that the Stainless Steel Ball Bearing isn't coated in any oil or lubrications.

The Second issue is getting the correct size, ideally you don't want a ball bearing to be too small otherwise it won't keep cold for as long as you need and you don't want the ball bearing too big other wise it can change the taste of your espresso.

The third issue is how you are going to hold the ball bearing under your espresso? While you can slot it under another dripper for making pour over coffee it can be a little bit more challenging when using a ball bearing to extract chill espresso. An alternative to this is to purchasing and using either a tea strainer or a new sink strainer, however the Coffee Alive Extract Chilling Balls offer a solution to all of these points listed above.

Height Adjustable:

We especially love how the Extract chilling balls from Coffee Alive are height adjustable. For those low clearance tight spaces under the portafilter simply flip the ball around and have the ball face downard in the cup. How to use:
