Why Grind Coffee Fresh?
When whole beans of coffee are ground their surface are dramatically increases, and with more surface comes exposure to air that quickly starts to turn your coffee stale.
Avoid this by grinding your coffee as soon as you're ready to brew.
Conical Vs Flat Burr Coffee Grinders
-
Flat Burrs
Flat burrs use two flat, parallel discs with sharp, ridged edges to grind coffee beans. One disc remains stationary while the other rotates, and beans are crushed between them. This design produces a highly uniform grind size, which is ideal for espresso and other brewing methods that require precision. Flat burrs are known for emphasising clarity and brightness in the cup, often bringing out more defined flavours.
-
Cone Burrs
Conical burrs consist of a cone shaped inner burr that fits inside a hollow, ring shaped outer burr. Beans are fed through the top and ground vertically, resulting in a more natural and efficient workflow that tends to generate less heat. This type of burr is favoured for manual coffee grinder and home use due to its lower power requirements and quieter operation.

What Grind Size To Use?
Different brew methods require a different grind size, pour over for example relies on gravity to pull the hot water through the bed of coffee grounds and filter into the bottom.
Espresso on the other hand have large amounts of pressure pushing the water through the puck of coffee and a finer grind size is required to build resistance.

Keep Coffee Fresher For Longer
Brew gear should be simple, practical, and built to last just like Airscape coffee canisters. With a sleek design that looks great on any bench, these canisters solve the problem of stale coffee beans by keeping your coffee fresher for longer. They're practical, reliable, and consistent every time.
