Titanium French Press Recipe

We’ve collaborated with SilverAnt to create one of the lightest and most travel-friendly coffee makers on the planet. Made from 99.7% pure Grade 1 Titanium, the Basic Barista × SilverAnt Titanium French Press weighs just 158g and holds 500ml, perfect for brewing fresh coffee anywhere, from your kitchen bench to the top of a mountain.

Simply add coffee, water, plunge, and you’ve got a full bodied cup of coffee that reflects the full character of your beans, no matter where you brew.

Why Brew With a Titanium French Press?

Titanium is often overlooked in the coffee world, but it’s one of the best materials for travel and outdoor gear. It’s lighter than steel, stronger than aluminium, and completely non-reactive, meaning it won’t alter the taste of your coffee.

It’s naturally resistant to rust, corrosion, and extreme heat, making it ideal for brewing outdoors. Plus, it’s built to last a lifetime, Titanium doesn’t dent easily or degrade even with years of rugged use.

In short, Titanium gives you pure coffee flavour, extreme durability, and ultralight performance, a combination few materials can match.

What Makes This a Camping French Press

At just 158g, this French Press is built for adventurers. The single-wall titanium body means you can heat your water directly in the body of the french press, no separate kettle or stove required if you want to travel minimally. Place it carefully over embers or a low campfire, and within minutes you’ll have water ready to brew.

Once hot, add your ground coffee, let it steep, and plunge. The heat-conductive body ensures efficient brewing even when in cold environments.

Important note: the titanium exterior gets very hot, so always use a handle grip or cloth when removing it from heat, and point the foldable handle away from flames. If you’re brewing indoors, use a coaster or heat-safe surface to avoid damage to your furniture.

Titanium French Press Recipe (Easy - Camp Fire)

This is a super easy french press recipe you can try with your Titanium French Press.

  1. Grind: Use a coarse grind, similar to raw sugar.
  2. Extend the handles and add 300g of water to the body of your french press, remove the lid and filter.
  3. Place your french press directly over the coals of a camp fire and wait for your water to boil (stress caution when doing this as the french press will get very hot).
  4. Once your water reaches just before boiling point add your coffee grounds to your press and place the lid and filter back on top, allow to steep for 3 minutes.
  5. At 3 minutes start to gently plunge until you feel the filter reach the bottom.
  6. Pour into a cup and enjoy your freshly brewed coffee!

This ratio gives a balanced, full-bodied cup with a sweet finish. Adjust grind size, brew time and coffee to water ratio to taste for a lighter or stronger brew.

Why Your French Press Tastes Bitter!

French press's are unfortunately known for their big bold characteristics, while some prefer this other find it over powering and are looking for ways to make their coffee taste more vibrant and cleaner with less sediment.

Firstly, coffee tastes muddy and bitter when fine particles get through. Metal screens and filters have some of the larges hole sizes compared to cotton coffee filters or paper coffee filters. This happens when small particles can pass through your filter and continue extracting in your cup of coffee.

To improve clarity we can try to grind a little coarser, brew with a cooler temperature water or for best results hack the filter!

French Press Paper Filter Hack:

So we discussed what makes coffee taste extra bitter and why french press's are notorious for this, but what if there was an easy hack to clean up your coffee and experiment with paper filtered coffee without sediment. The answer comes from brewing pour over, 'Paper Filters'.
I'm sure there are filters designed specifically for some french press's but we've come up with an easy hack to use normal coffee filters on your french press, simply take an 01 conical coffee filter (can be bigger but can't be smaller).

  1. Cut or tear along the mountain fold seam before prying the filter open to reveal a semi-circle shape.
  2. (*Optional) cut the two corners to neaten up the filter paper and remove extra paper.
  3. Add your coffee and water to your french press and proceed to brew as per our recipe above. With the one difference, don't place the plunger on top.
  4. After 2 minutes place the paper on the base of the press and slowly press this down to touch the coffee grounds. Plunge slowly to ensure the paper filter doesn't rip or break apart too much.

Care & Cleaning Your French Press:

  • Hand-wash using mild detergent and warm water.
  • Rinse the filter plunger under fast-running water to remove any grounds.
  • Dry thoroughly after each use, titanium dries fast and doesn’t rust, but this helps preserve the wooden handle and filter screen.

Avoid dishwashers and harsh abrasives to keep your press looking pristine.
