Hario V60 Drip-Assist Review

The Hario V60 Drip Assist is Hario's response to the MeloDrip (a hand held low agitation dispersion screen for your hot water). The V60 drip assist is different in it's design as the dispersion screen 1- sits on top of your brewer (Perfect for freeing up a hand) and 2- has 2 channels that the water can disperse from, the centre and the outer circle.
Hario V60 Drip-Assist Hole Size:
The Hario V60 Drip-Assist has 2 channels that water can exit, the centre channel has 3 large holes that flow quickly while the outer channel accommodates 10 holes with much smaller diameters.
Due to the multiple size holes you can customise the rate and exactly how quickly your water goes into your brewer. I found great results brewing a 5 stage pour with the first 3 pours using a combination of both the centre and middle channels and then the last 2 pours using only the outside channel.
Low Agitation:
When brewing coffee the height and flow of the water coming out of your kettle will disturb the grounds. Depending on how much agitation is involved will push the bed of coffee grounds around, this is commonly known as 'Churn' and depending on how much churn of coffee grounds will effect your brew and the taste of your coffee!
While some recipes call for high agitation, this really does boil down to your preference and what style of coffee tastes good to you. However one of the most common mistakes that particularly beginner brewers are prone to making is using high agitation, this is largely due to inexperience using a gooseneck kettle or that they aren't using a gooseneck kettle at all!
The Hario V60 Drip Assist is a great tool to lower your agitation as well as bringing us to our next point, can the Hario V60 Drip-Assist replace a Gooseneck kettle?
Gooseneck Kettle Replacement?
A Gooseneck kettle is titled so due to the spout that looks like a gooses neck, this stile of spout paired with a restrictor valve creates a slow pouring water flow that is perfect for brewing coffee with.
However there are some cases when a gooseneck kettle isn't ideal, cupping coffee, immersion brew methods and high agitation brew methods are the biggest frustration to gooseneck kettle owners.
I can absolutely see the Hario V60 Drip Assist replacing gooseneck kettles to an extent and more likely be used in conjunction with a gooseneck kettle.
