What is coffee flower tea?

As the name suggests “flower”, is part of the coffee tree on which the green coffee beans grow. Rather than wasting the flower, these coffee flowers are hand picked at the right time (to prevent any disruption to the growth of the coffee fruit). The flowers are then dried on a raised bed (designed for coffee processing) for a few hours to preserve the natural flavours & aromas and sent off to be sold as tea.

What does coffee flower tea taste like?

Due to its natural state being a flower, you can expect floral notes like jasmine, hibiscus, honeysuckle and green tea. But as we all know, tasting notes & aromas are very subjective. You may have a different experience to us and that is the beautiful part of coffee & tea tasting.

Cascara vs Coffee flower tea:

Cascara as a word means ‘peel’ or ‘skin’ in Spanish. so it is the outer skin of the coffee fruit. Where as the ‘coffee flower’ is an entirely separate part of the coffee tree. They may share similarities in aromas and flavour notes, but Cascara tea tend to have more fruity notes like mango & cherry. Even sometimes notes of tobacco.

How to brew coffee flower tea:

1g of coffee flower tea

70g pour of hot water at 80ºc

Brew for 2 mins in a Gai Wan

Pour out and drink

Repeat by pouring more hot water (70g)
