HARIO V60 NEO Dripper Review

The HARIO V60 is one of the most recognisable coffee brewers in the world and for good reason. It’s capable of producing incredible cups of coffee, but it’s also a brewer that can be surprisingly unforgiving. Grind slightly too fine, pour a little too aggressively or stall your draw down and suddenly the cup becomes bitter, muddy and over extracted.

Over the last couple of months though, I’ve found myself reaching less and less for the traditional V60 and more for the new HARIO V60 NEO Dripper.

What originally felt like another 'slightly different dripper' that promised marginal improvements ended up becoming my daily brewer.

My Initial Thoughts

When I first saw the HARIO NEO, I honestly thought it was going to be another money grab. Coffee brewing equipment is full of products that promise tiny differences and dramatic improvements but rarely deliver anything meaningful in actual day-to-day brewing.

The NEO felt like it was heading in that same direction. but after using it consistently for around 2 months, my opinion completely changed. This isn’t just a cosmetic redesign of the V60. Everything about the brewer feels intentional and well thought out and the coffee as been tasting exceptional.

A Faster Flow, More Bypass & Cleaner Cups

The defining characteristic of the HARIO NEO is its faster flow and higher amount of bypass compared to a traditional V60.

The walls of the dripper lift away from the filter slightly more, creating additional air channels around the sides of the brewer. This allows more water to move around the coffee bed instead of forcing all of it directly through the centre.

The result is a brewer that:

  • Draws down faster
  • Feels more forgiving
  • Produces cleaner cups
  • Reduces bitterness
  • Maintains clarity extremely well

Compared to a standard V60, the NEO Dripper feels noticeably less restrictive.

With a traditional V60, there are moments where a slightly finer grind or a more aggressive pour can quickly lead to over extraction and stalling. The NEO Dripper seems to open up the extraction window a little more and gives you extra breathing room while brewing. For a daily brewer, this matters a lot more than people think.

The HARIO Switch Pairing

My NEO dripper has spent most of its life sitting inside a HARIO Switch base and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Don’t get me wrong, the stock standard silicone base is still excellent and the dripper performs beautifully on its own. But once paired with the Switch base, it unlocks an entirely new layer of control.

Being able to manipulate contact time while still benefiting from the NEO’s faster flowing characteristics creates a really enjoyable brewing experience.

With the HARIO Switch Base you can:

  • Extend blooms
  • Slow down aggressive coffees
  • Experiment with hybrid immersion brewing
  • Increase sweetness without sacrificing clarity

It’s become one of those brewing setups that simply works across a huge range of coffees without requiring constant adjustment.

Brewing With The NEO

One thing I noticed almost immediately is how easy the NEO is to brew with. It naturally leans toward a cleaner, lighter style of extraction and because of its increased bypass and faster flow, it handles slightly finer grind sizes surprisingly well.

The brewer feels stable and predictable. That predictability is what has made it such a strong daily dripper for me.

It’s not necessarily trying to replace the traditional V60. Instead, it feels like a refinement of the concept, a version that prioritises consistency, cleanliness and ease of use.

Build Quality & Design

The HARIO NEO is made from Tritan PCT resin which makes it:

  • Lightweight
  • Durable
  • Heat resistant
  • Easy to clean

Like most HARIO coffee dripper, it feels thoughtfully made and practical for everyday use. It’s also fully compatible with standard V60 filters and accessories which makes integrating it into an existing setup incredibly easy.

Where I Stand With This Dripper Now

The HARIO V60 NEO ended up surprising me. What started as skepticism turned into one of my favourite brewers to use daily.

It’s fast flowing, forgiving, clean tasting and genuinely enjoyable to brew with. More importantly, it feels like a product that was designed with intentionality rather than just being another variation trying to cash in on the popularity of the V60.

If you enjoy clarity-focused brews but want something slightly more forgiving and easier to live with day-to-day, the HARIO NEO Dripper is absolutely worth exploring.

For me personally, it’s earned a permanent place in my dripper rotation.
