Timemore Chestnut C3 Coffee Grinder

Please note not to grind finer than 5 clicks on Timemore C3 as this runs the risk of dulling the burrs.

Timemore C3 vs C2 - What’s the Difference?

The Timemore C3 has heaps of popularity for it's low price point and big value features it offers, but the previous Timemore C2 grinders are still in circulation and still relevant to discuss some of the differences between both of these grinders.

Timemore C2 vs C3 Grind Adjustment Dial

The Timemore C2 originally had a plastic Grind adjustment dial, this was upgraded to a full metal grind adjustment dial in 2022 and has continued with the release of the C3 grinders.

Timemore Burrs Difference:

The Timemore C3 Grinder has upgraded S2C Burrs (Spike To Cut), this design of burrs helped to spike and break the beans into smaller pieces before grinding them down to the correct size at the edge of the burrs.
While many are a fan of the Timemore C3 S2C Burrs they do come with a drawback, they are slightly slower in comparison to the Timemore C2 Burrs.

Thicker Axle support Beams

The Timemore C3 has slightly thicker support beams holding the axil in place, this theoretically would make grinding more stable and consistent.

Darker shade colour

The Timemore C2 was more of a grey lighter colour on the exterior of the grinder where as the Timemore C3 grinder features a darker black colour. The groves on the body remain unchanged.

Timemore C3 Materials & Build Quality:

The Timemore C3 grinder is made from aluminium, stainless steel and features some plastic components such as a plastic knob, lid and internal axle support.

Is the Timemore C3 Good for Espresso?

The Timemore C3 actually does a pretty solid job when it comes to grinding for espresso, especially for a grinder in this price range. Grinding fine definitely takes a bit of effort (and a good arm workout if you’re using light roast coffee), but the results are impressive.

With the upgraded S2C burrs, the grind consistency is great, producing fluffy, even grounds with little to no retention. When I brewed espresso using the Aram coffee maker, the shot came out balanced, floral, and sweet with a nice layer of crema. Overall, the Timemore C3 can absolutely handle espresso, it just requires a bit more time and elbow grease, but the flavour and quality you get make it well worth it.
