Comparing Bean Jars For The Comandante Grinder
Share this article
Whether you're a casual home brewer or a daily drinker, the bean jar you use on your Comandante grinder can significantly influence your workflow, overall experience, and each have their own sets of pros and cons. While it might seem like a small accessory, the bean jar you pair with your Comandante C40 or Comandante C60 makes a noticeable difference in your daily use.
Below, we break down the most popular Comandante compatible bean jars we sell so you have the information you need to choose the right jar for you.
Comandante Branded Polymer Jars
Buy Comandante Poly Bean Jar
Price: $25 AUD
The Polymer Bean Jar is the default option included with many Comandante grinders and is ideal for brewers looking for a lightweight and travel-friendly solution. Its plastic construction makes it nearly unbreakable, which is great for taking your grinder on the go or using it in fast paced environments such as a cafe. The jars come in a variety of bright, vibrant colours and are soon to be available in a larger size called the Large Polymer Bean Jar, making them both practical and able to match your other coloured coffee gear.
However, over time the polymer can scratch easily and unfortunately we found these jars to be the worst for mess, they tend to build up static when grinding directly into it and care the messiest option out of the three jars we're comparing.
Comandante Glass Jars
Buy Comandante Glass Bean Jar
Price: $22 AUD (individual) / $45 AUD (4-pack)
The Glass Bean Jar is a clean, premium option for users who primarily brew at home. It offers a more tactile and look so much more visually pleasing, with options for clear or brown glass. Glass has the advantage of being easy to clean, produces very little static, and provides a solid, balanced feel during grinding. They also don't scratch compared to the polymer Comandante Jars.
That being said, glass jars are not ideal for travel as they are prone to breaking if dropped or packed carelessly. While they look great on a bench setup, they do require more cautious handling than polymer or stainless steel options.
If you're set on using glass and plan on travelling, the Comandante Felt Sleeve is a no-brainer. It protects your grinder from getting scratched up and adds a thick level of padding to lower the chances of breaking the jar. (It helps, but isn't a bullet proof solution).
CafeSing Stainless Steel COD Bean Jar
Buy CafeSing COD Stainless Steel Bean Jar & Knob Set
Price: $125 AUD
The CafeSing COD Stainless Steel Bean Jar is a premium upgrade designed to pair beautifully with the Comandante C60 Baracuda and is also compatible with the C40 coffee grinders. This jar is machined from a solid stainless steel block and adds around 300g of weight to your coffee grinder, giving it a robust, ultra premium feel. The added weight also improves stability during grinding, and the solid construction makes it highly durable and resistant to wear and tear.
Something I wanted to mention that you can't capture in photos is that screwing this jar into your grinder makes a super satisfying sound. You can feel it lock into place. I can't stress how nice it is to grind with the Comandante and this stainless steel jar, everything feels well balanced in your hand and hefty.
The COD Stainless Steel Jar also comes with an included stainless steel ball to match, this ball is compatible with the comandante cranks and can be easily swapped out to match the stainless steel bean jar.
However, the weight of this jar can be a downside if you're planning to travel with your grinder. Additionally, its price point is significantly higher than other options, which may be hard to justify for casual users.
