Beatrix and her children manage the farm, focusing on producing higher quality by implementing alternative fermentation processes to achieve a more complex flavour in the cup.

This lot has an extra dry fermentation phase where the washed and sorted cherries are placed in sealed bags for a period of time before pulping and washing. Pedro, her son, is a certified Q processor and both he and his sister Lucia are biologists, providing expertise they bring to this unique coffee.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER:

Beatriz’s farm, Finca La Esperanza has been in the family for 30 years. The farm was passed on to her when her husband, Gilberto Angel, passed away in 2002. This farm provides for the livelihoods of her, her son and her daughter.

Beatriz is a member of a well-established coffee association - Cooperativa de Caficultores del Risaralda (or Coopcafer for short) in Pereira, Risaralda, Colombia. Their goals are to ensure stable prices for their producers, and to provide socio-economic benefits that strengthen the futures of the producer's families and the community.

The association's core values are focussed on environmental responsibility, transparency, and community care. Members of Coopcafer are supported in several vital areas, including life insurance, environmental disaster insurance, and educational support for families. The farm’s of producers are supported through the supply of shade trees, support in the care of a farm’s dry and wet mills, assistance in the acquisition of farm equipment such as demucilagers, and soil analysis.

Beatriz’s farm is located in Risaralda in the municipality of Pereria, Colombia at an elevation of 1450 - 1500 MASL, where the average temperature is 21 C. The total area of the farm is 18,97 hectares and 13,22 of those hectares are planted with coffee.
